Welcome to Diamond K Studio Online. My name is Denise Paradis. I’m a designer of truly unique, artisan jewelry. Since I was a little girl making ornaments out of Styrofoam balls in my Grandmas’s basement, I’ve had a love for arts and crafts. As a kid, I took drawing and painting lessons instead of going to dance class and girl scouts. My passion to be creative has taken me down many different avenues. From painting in all mediums to pottery to polymer clay to hot glass, I’ve done them all! I finally found my love for creating jewelry after learning about Precious Metal Clay (PMC), a clay-like substance made from pulverized fine silver and a binder, that when fired in a kiln, turns to .999 fine sterling silver. I thought “Wow! I could make beads and charms and …” So the jewelry artist in me was born. From there I began experimenting with wire and beads. I bought some books and learned as much as I could on my own. I began incorporating artist made lampwork (glass) beads into my jewelry then decided to put the professional lampworking studio I received as a gift years earlier to use and signed up for some lampworking lessons. Now, I make my own focal beads! In May of 2009, I found Creative U, a wonderful studio where I began taking advanced classes in metalsmithing, wirework and PMC. For a while, Creative U was my home away from home!! Then, in January of 2011, I was asked to work as an Instructor there. It was the best job I've ever had! Not many of us get to work doing something we truly love! Unfortunately, the owner of Creative U had to move across the country and the studio was forced to close at the end of 2012. Creating jewelry is now a hobby that I get to enjoy whenever I get some time to play! When I’m not designing and creating jewelry, my responsibilities include taking care of my fur and feather babies. My menagerie of critters include 2 cats, 4 dogs, a Nubian goat, a mini horse, and 5 chickens. I get to spend time each day outside with my animals. We live in New River, Arizona, a rural-ish area north of Phoenix where I have beautiful desert and mountain views to inspire me. And, I never imagined that shoveling manure, sitting in a chicken coup and chasing after my dogs could be so beneficial to my creative process!
Thanks for stopping by to get to know me a bit better!
